Sechseläuten - Spring Festival in Zurich (CANCELLED)

Due to the measures adopted in connection to the Coronavirus, the festival will not take place in 2020.

The traditional festival goes all the way back to the 16th century, and originally was related to the extension of working hours due to the longer daytime. On Sunday (this year on 7 April) a children's procession opens the celebration, next day the main festival goes on, where a symbolic snowman, called the Böögg, is going to be set on fire.

Spring Wine Fair (CANCELLED)

The 16th edition of EXPOVINA Primavera cannot take place this year as planned.

Just two weeks ago they were forced to postpone the EXPOVINA Primavera to a replacement date in May. But even if an implementation were legally permissible at the time, social and economic life will not have recovered to the point that the unmistakable, enjoyable and cheerful atmosphere of this wine fair can arise.

The next event of the Spring Wine Fair will therefore only take place in 2021.

Blues ‘n’ jazz in Rapperswil (CANCELLED)

On the upper end of Lake Zurich in the town of roses, three stages are waiting for the blues and jazz lovers. The cosy open-air festival in Rapperswil – Jona attracts thousands of guests every year, where concerts are held in gorgeous scenery directly next to the lake. Besides the great Swiss and international performances visitors can enjoy the broad range of food and drinks the lakeside promenade offers. Art Basel 2020

For a few days Basel turns into a centre of fine arts, where the most significant contemporary works are presented. Swiss National Yodelling Festival

Basel welcomes yodelling choirs, alpine horn players and flag-wavers from June 26-28, 2020. The yodellers’ village will be located in St. Peter’s Square near the University of Basel. Wide range of delicious local foods are waiting the visitors.

Bregenz Festival

Longing for an open-air opera night? A special scene awaits the classical music lovers on Bregenz Festival, with the stage standing literally on Lake Constance. The event was first held one year after the Second World War ended and has attracted huge audience since then. Visitors coming from Austria, Germany, Switzerland and France made the festival an international success. Many productions are broadcasted for TV viewers, but the live act and breath-taking settings give unique experience to visitors without doubt. Swiss Indoors Basel 2019

Experience the largest national sports event, the social high point of the year.
One of the most important indoor men's tennis tournaments in the world takes place in Basel and always forms part of the end-of-season run-up to the World Finals. The magnificent St. Jakobshalle is the setting for this annual gathering of the elite of the tennis world. Check official website.

Carneval in Basel

We suggest you another carnival to discover: the event being defined as the “three best days” in Basel.
The celebration begins on Monday after Ash Wednesday with a really special march. At 4 a.m. sharp for the “Morgestraich”, all lights in the city are switched off and around 200 artistically decorated lanterns start glowing in the dark. Doesn’t it sound charming? The lanterns are placed afterwards on the Münsterplatz for the public to admire. See the complete program here.

Carneval in Zurich

If you wish to see how Zurichers let their hair down, this carneval is a must.The Niederdorf quarter gives place to this three-day event, where visitors can see extraordinary costumes, loud and - most of the time - out of tune melodies played by various ensembles. Fasnacht in Luzern

A parade of funny costumes and fantastic masks all along the picturesque streets of Luzern. This is the time of the year to let your hair down and be entertained. The locals and tourists are dancing and singing through these couple of nights together with carnival musicians. You can hardly find a pedestrian without a costume or a bizarre makeup. 38th World Snow Festival

It all began with a Heidi carved in the snow by Japanese artists, since then every January Grindelwald hosts the international Snow Festival on the natural ice-rink in the village centre.This year’s theme is hospitality.

PhotoZürich

This exhibition is the largest public event for photography in Switzerland. It takes place at Stage One and Halle 622 in Zürich-Nord and the whole space is organized around the theme of photography. Not only the current works of Swiss artists are displayed during these five days, but visitors can listen to some talks by internationally renowned photographers. Lilu Light Festival

Lucerne has been known as the “city of lights” since the late Middle Ages. To rekindle this feature a new festival has been kicked off last year in the old town and it seems to become a tradition from now on.

2020 New Year’s Eve party by Lake Zurich

A very funny and frosty tradition in Zurich is called Samichlausschwimmen, that can be translated as Santa Claus swimming.
Since 2000 a group of friends decided to have a swim in the wintry Limmat in Santa Claus costumes. From year to year more participants joined to this challenge, some of them say it's good for their health. But since 2011 it is definitely good for your soul, as the proceeds of the event are donated for charity.

Swiss City Marathon – Lucerne

The last Sunday in October is a date to remember for all marathon participants and fans.
One of Switzerland’s finest marathon/half-marathon is held in a scenic athmosphere.
The route follows the Lake Lucerne shoreline around the Horw peninsula, through the football stadium and past the KKL Luzern, and through Lucerne’s delightful Old Town to the Swiss Museum of Transport. Those who choose to do the full marathon run this loop twice. The DuoMarathon is for those wishing to share the route with a partner. The 10 km event is recommended for those new to running.
Thousands of spectators cheer the runners on their way to the sound of more than 30 musical ensembles.

Laver Cup in Geneva

The convention center, Palexpo, in Geneva is host to the third edition of the Laver Cup 2019. This three-day indoor men’s tennis competition between two teams (Team Europe and Team World) takes place soon after the US Open with the location rotating. Captain Björn Borg will put together a world-class European team, so much so that Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will once again become teammates. The Swiss tennis star is really grateful to play Laver Cup in his home country. Most of the tickets are sold out already, but some packages are still available. 55th Zurich Limmatschwimmen

This is the only time of the year when people are allowed to swim down on Limmat river to Zurich centre, from “Frauenbadi” to “Oberen Letten”. How fun is it to swim there viewing the picturesque downtown on a hot sunny day?
The Limmatschwimmen traditionally starts with the competition swimmers at 12 clock. Afterwards it's the turn of all the people who would like to swim for fun. You can take your swim bag with you or purchase one there.Tickets are available here.

Zurich Triathlon & IRONMAN

A challenging weekend
From Friday visitors can get ready for the sport events with trainings, IRONMAN expo and  food village. Saturday morning opens with the Zurich Triathlon at 8:00, then in the afternoon (14:00-18:00) the fittest companies in Switzerland are competing to find the sportiest of all. There will be three categories, female, male and mixed. One team consists of three members and everyone completes one discipline: running, biking or swimming. The event takes place in Landwiese, the upper West side of Lake Zurich.

This Triathlon is only the warm-up for the big contest, IRONMAN, held on Sunday from 6:40. The superhero participants need to complete more than 200 km distance swimming, running and by bike. Check the official website for more details.

53 Montreux Jazz Festival

Taking place in Montreux surrounded by the picturesque Lake Geneva, this festival is one of the greatest jazz festivals and attracts a quarter million people every year who wish to celebrate music. After the great success of the free open-air opera nights, here is a new event for those who like ballet.
Ballet for All will broadcast live a performance from the Opera House at Sechseläutenplatz.
Visitors can enjoy this spectacular show on a big screen while sitting on a blanket or folding chairs having a picnic.
The dance story of Rome and Juliet is choreographed by Christian Spuck and accompanied by the Philharmonia Zurich.
